The Jolly Roger runs 850 feet into the Atlantic from the south end of Topsail Island, in Topsail Beach at 803 East Ocean Road. It is one of only three ocean fishing piers left on the island, and it is the one furthest from the bridge traffic.
Day passes start around $16 and rod rentals are available, so you can turn up without gear and still fish. The season runs March through November. Call 910-328-4616 before a shoulder-season trip, because both hours and rates move once the summer crowd thins out.
The property is more than the pier. There is a fully stocked bait and tackle shop, a gift shop, and the Jolly Roger Grill, which is a full-service restaurant rather than a snack window. The Jolly Roger motel operates on the same site, so you can book a room and walk to the pier without moving your car.
Parking is on site and the pier house handles passes, bait and rentals in one stop. If you are coming from off the island, note that Topsail Beach is the far south end, so budget the extra drive time past Surf City.
