East Coast Sports is located at 409 Roland Ave in Surf City and has been on this spot since 1952, when it opened as a family-run ice house. The Medlin family has kept it going through every version since, and it is now the island's tackle and outfitting shop.
The tackle side covers inshore and offshore, with Penn, Shimano, AFTCO, Abu Garcia, Berkley and Nomad among the brands stocked. Beyond fishing there are kayaks and paddleboards, beach and pool gear, boating supplies, coastal apparel, and sunglasses from Costa, Maui Jim and Smith.
Hours from the shop's own site are Sunday 7am to 7pm, Monday through Thursday 8am to 7pm, Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday 7am to 8pm. Several third-party listings show a later Saturday and Sunday opening, so if you are planning an early start, call 910-328-1887.
